      XMir is the Xsever we have now basically. If a user wanted to install the KDE environment on XMir, it would still be possible right? I don't see why not.

        Here a video showing kde, gnome, XFCE, lxde running on xmir:

        A collection of videos of Unity 7, GNOME 3, KDE, XFCE, and LXDE running on top of XMir on Mir on an Ubuntu system with integrated Intel graphics. This also d...

              Might first want to read what the Kubuntu dev says about that

              There's been a few posts of Kubuntu on XMir and other flavours too. That's nice to see but compositing is very fragile, even Ubuntu shipping the latest Mesa can increase the number of beasties the poor KWin developers have to handle with because of unexpected issues it creates. Putting another layer between KWin and your monitor is certain to create new issues so I'll be keeping anything to do with Mir off the Kubuntu images.

                Sounds like complete nonsense since XMir can be seen as another implementation of X

                Kwin actually uses X to do rendering. XMir replaces original X libraries so Kwin will transparently see XMir as X without a layer in between

                Basicallay we have this now:

                X -> Kwin -> Desktop environment

                that translated to XMir doesn't adds an extra layer just a different implementation

                XMir -> Kwin -> Desktop environment

                It seems that KDE developer is in complete negation

                Another way of putting it

                x.so -> kwin.so -> applications == xmir.so -> kwin.so -> applications

                    No it is not. XMir is a backend for X.org. It exactly the same implementation. The X.org server is then a client for Mir.

                    It uses the exactly same libaries. It's just a different backend.

                    It does add another layer; Mir itself. It will goes like this:

                    KWin -> X.org -> "Hardware"
                    to
                    KWin -> X.org/XMir -> Mir -> "Hardware"
