And yes, Ubuntu users are largely retarded but it's a pretty solid distro.

Also agree with the naysayers: this isn't a whole article in itself. Perhaps Phoronix should have a weekly round-up of all the smaller news items, incl. blog announcements.

    so stop bitching for ubuntu....
So let me see if I've got this straight:

You're agreeing with me but telling me to 'stop bitching'?

As for it being the 'first distro', for the majority, it's also the last. It's not merely a matter of inexperience, it's also the type of user: where before there were merely freetards, we now also have groupies; people who were too poor to buy a Mac but still needed to 'belong'. You need only look at the Phoronix threads following the recent Unity announcements to see the reactionary zeal of the devotees who sensed that someone was saying something negative about Canonical/Ubuntu and signed up just to bitch and rant. The ubuntu community as a whole has become quite poisonous as a result of the people's it's attracted. It's why we see so many grovelling apologies from Ubuntu devs (Shuttleworth included) because they dared to make a joke someone took offence to, or were too curt in their criticisms of someone else. It's also why you won't find much good technical support on the forums: the people who knew what they were talking about became victims of Ubuntu's CoC politics; you can fix 10 peoples' problems but get impatient with any of them and you'd get harassed by the 'pleasant police'.

I see that tall poppy syndrome is still strong around these parts.

other linux sites are less ubuntu centric and are doing well. They DO report security 'events' - which is a reason to visit them. Reading about the latest fart on the ubuntu blogs - not.

You can't make any money off a site that reposts a bunch of bug reports.

with the exception of fedora maybe: no, there would not be an article about it.

And there was no announcement. All that happend was that Shuttleworth wrote in his blog that ubuntu might use wayland at some point in the future.

And phoronix, as ubuntu's little bitch, had to make an exciting 'announcement' out if it, furthering the mindless hype around ubuntu.

Besides, there is much more than wayland - and so far I have not seen any indication why it is so great to get orgasmic about it.

The problem is, there is something with ubuntu and phoronix (and other former linux sites) blow it completely out of proportion.

Why not doing something usefull? Like posting about all those bugs in ubuntu?

To be a little bit reasonable, if another distro wrote about such things, the chances are not as great about it being written about on Phoronix. The majority of the news is about Ubuntu, or xorg in Ubuntu, or whatever with Ubuntu.
Of course, phoronix is mostly engaged in benchmarking and uses Ubuntu for most of its work, so naturally the people involved care mostly about Ubuntu. However, sometimes it seems like "Linux" is replaced with "Ubuntu" around here - and what Mark Shuttleworth thinks of Wayland doesn't mean the rest of the community will agree. A good portion won't - they're more concerned with productivity and will gladly sacrifice a shiny user experience for those not so computer-literate to get it.

and after installing ubuntu you go on hunting 'dev' packages because ubuntu follows the brain deadness of several other distros not including header files. Idiotic.
