if a bug can thrash your system so bad that the only thing you can to to recover is reboot, I think it's noteworthy.

PS: I've been here since 2011. I'm not the alt account of nobody (and have no alt accounts)

Color Management! Finally after all this time they added this basic and very important feature to wayland!

You talking about the cosmic memory leak? cuz that shit is absolutely hilarious, after all the main selling point of rust is memory safety... And it clearly can't even do that.

On top of that, the Hyprland developer has a huge chip on his shoulder about Cosmic, and will take any chance he can to say it's bad just because people like Cosmic and don't like Hyprland. He's salty af, and so his opinion on Cosmic is never worth sharing because it's never valid.
But Cosmic is bad atm, Hyprland is x100 more stable. Salty? Opinion is never valid? LoL Cosmic sucks atm and it's a fact, not an opinion. In few years maybe it will change.

The bug only exists if you log out of Cosmic without shutting down or rebooting your computer, as opposed to just locking it. This is pretty rare these days as most people have their own PC as opposed to a family PC. Additionally, it doesn't "thrash" the system, it takes several logout-login cycles for it to really become a problem as cosmic-comp doesn't actually use that much RAM and it partially cleans itself up, just not fully.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. AKA crying over nothing, not even spilled milk. It'll be tracked down and fixed by the next alpha.

I don't particularly like Cosmic, and I like a lot of the stuff Vaxry makes (e.g. Hyprcursors). It's not like all of his opinions are invalid, just the ones about Cosmic because he's got a huge chip on his shoulder about the fact that people hype it more than they do his project.

That being said, how's XWayland on Hyprland these days? It was basically unusable for how many years?

Memory safety was never about not being able to do memory leaks. You can do leak memory in all sorts of memory-safe languages, like Python, Java, JavaScript, and Rust is no exception here. It even literally has a function in the standard library that's called leak().

                  Geez, the trolls these days.

It's the opposite though... I've heard people talk about hyprland all over for like a year, first time i heard about cosmic was like a month ago, and I've only really seen it mentioned on phoronix and i've never seen anyone say anything particularly good about it.

It's interesting, as a new project, but quite clearly quite the failure, I wonder if they'll manage to plug the leaks or just abandon the project.

Hyprland was the first actually usable (at all) wayland compositor i tried. everytime i tried to use wayland for years, it didn't work out, then one time i tried hyprland, and it actually worked. I have been using it for over a year now, and I haev not had any major issues with xwayland, what are you basing this information on?
