The floating window feature is so nice for thing like popups or other small windows that don't need to have a whole column dedicated to them, this compositor keeps getting better and better!

I like that Xwayland support is otucasted to an app similar to how Mac OS does it.

Niri continues to be one of the coolest window manager projects. I haven't gotten around to trying it because I generally don't use tiling WMs, but I really need to.

Niri is amazing, Im working on a config for it to use on phones, sadly it relies on a lot of GTK things which does actually have a noticable performance hit on my tablet :/ but I am looking for replacements, on the next release of xkbcommon-rs you will be able to use wvkbd instead of squeekboard which helps a lot.

the only thing I am *really* missing from niri itself is the overview functionality. unfortunately, we still have no "universal back action" concept on linux desktop which is such a massive issue IMO.

I also plan on making a TV setup soon, but since I can't program any more, trying to find a suitable launcher has been an issue.

RSI. I have been doing computer related work since I was a child, and was still doing it part time when I was working a steel warehouse. After repeatedly damaging my hands and continuing to type I have developed RSI. I can still do some basic typing, and thanks to AI integration stuff, I can do some of the more basic stuff, but anything that requires me to sit down and type for more then a couple minutes straight starts to develop some pain.

Recently it has gotten a bit better since my brother got me one of those keychron keyboards and I can set the actuation to be practically nothing. but its still just drops in a bucket.

Realistically until AI programing workflows get better I'm effectively out of the game. Even typing this has lead to a small degree of pain. Really hope we see Speech to text solutions for wayland become more popular. This would at least make this a lot better .

I feel for you, I hope the speech to text solutions start to appear soon.

What GTK things specifically does niri rely on?

not niri, my config, so far swaync, waybar, gtk portals provider, sysmenu. these are the ones I have so far that I need replacements for. squeekboard I replaced with wvkbd, the fix for getting that working is merged in xkbcommon.

I am also using zenity as a workaround
