Sway 1.10 Released With GPU Reset Recovery & Other Wayland Enhancements

Yeah, I'm more of a minimalist and I'll stick with sway. The website alone should have been an indication of what the rest of it was going to be.
Just not for me.

I also just removed it. You can keep it.

Hyprland is like Sway where both are god-awful until you play around with it for a week or seven to get it all fine-tuned to your liking. Sway has a slight edge since a lot of its users are old i3 users that didn't have to do much to change their setup from a decade + back when they played with i3 for a week or seven. There are pros and cons with Sway maintaining i3 compatibility, but the big pro is being i3 compatible. People can use someone else's setup from years and years back.

That's where Hyprland comes into play. It does a lot of what Sway/i3 can do but it doesn't have any legacy baggage. Unlike Sway, the biggest con of Hyprland is having to learn an entirely new way of doing things and it doesn't have nearly the amount of other people's setups to build off of or to gather inspiration from.

FWIW, I use KDE. I tried Hyprland and Sway both and noped right the hell out. I'll admit that I just didn't care to learn them enough to utilize them. I will say that almost a year of having a 3440x1440 monitor makes me wish KDE had better tiling. Very few things take advantage of ultrawide.

My current thing has been an Arch install with archinstaller and adding in the Gnome package (Arch keeps it pretty minimal). To that I install Sway and other things. I get Gnome when I want a more full DE experience and some of the plumbing it provides, then Sway for something more minimal and focused.

I've played with a lot of the other Wayland-native window managers and a lot of good stuff out there. But I have been working on getting more focused so I can get more done (and not spend all my time "turning knobs" if you will). Sway has been a good fit for that.

Drew doesn't develop for Sway anymore, so it should be easy.

Developers of Wlroots and Sway are extremely talanted and I'm really grateful for their effort towards maintaining these high quality projects

This version has fixed a number of issues I had with displays not initialising properly when connected via thunderbolt 3 or usb 4. Very solid.
