Yeah, I'm more of a minimalist and I'll stick with sway. The website alone should have been an indication of what the rest of it was going to be.
    Just not for me.

Their site isn't the greatest, that's for sure.

If you are into the ricing thing, pretty sure Hyprland is a great environment to rice. I could see some pretty cool setups being possible with it. But for me, as mentioned, I need to start focusing more on getting things done and not constantly turning knobs to see what they all do. For that usage case, Sway is a good fit.

I had really high hopes for Hyprland but after using it on many occasions, it's just not suitable for anything more than web browsing.
          • Head developer's lack of experience has many times resulted in very questionable code, my favorites:
          • Performance related issues like memory leaks and wasted CPU cycles are frequently re-appearing.
          • XWayland apps are scaling improperly for years on end causing blur and parts of window to go missing.
          • Founder's lack of understanding of basic compositor features like triple buffering is concerning.
          • Hardware Cursor appears to be broken as tearing mode causes the cursor to run at the same framerate as the game despite VRR and VSYNC being disabled.
          • Latency is noticeably higher vs Sway or KDE, presumably due to broken direct scanout which like many other features in Hyprland, are just poorly implemented.

Sway/wlroots might not have fancy animations but their pull requests are kept to very high standard and major features thoroughly discussed. This shouldn't be a surprise considering many of wlroots' developers are MESA contributors.

Drew doesn't develop for Sway anymore, so it should be easy.

It was quite shocking to realize who Drew Devault really is. Quite a talented programmer. But over the years he has become so pathetic. Always trying to start a flame war and making public insults on RMS when the old guy has cancer. I don't know, maybe RMS is on the spectrum, but Drew Devault is straight up sick and should seek therapy.

I've been using Sway full time for years since its' inception. It's a solid project. Glad Devault is no longer associated with the project.
These days I'm using Niri. Really like the scrolling WM concept. https://github.com/YaLTeR/niri

What do you expect from someone who thought developing a tilling WM would be a good idea.

Man... Did you stop for a second to think about what you were typing? Are you implying that either the usage of tiling window manager or the development of such program is in any way, shape or form connected with devault's disgusting behaviour?

There are a ton of reasons one might pick to develop any project and that says nothing about people's character. Shallow comments like this just cause unnecessary stir in a situation that is already bad for what it is.

People nowadays are very inconsequential with what they write online and, honestly, it saddens me deeply that people in this forum prefer the flamewar approach than civility.

Devault's actions are clearly disgusting and he should be condemned, there's no doubt about it. Any discussion outside this scope is irrelevant and unnecessary.

Hyprland is good but it has no vulkan rendering, that's why prefer sway. Honestly the only thing i miss from hyprland is dynamic tiling, sth the sway devs will never implement.

Honest question, but I'm guessing liking kids isn't against the Freedesktop CoC?

If it is, could really use their internet policing right now.
