Quite frankly, I hope this doesn't get merged. We don't need to fragment wayland even more then it already is.

EDIT: Does anyone know if valve has been offered membership with wayland protocols? That seems like it would be the best route forwards considering how much work they have been doing. Or is it something like an application thing?

Huh, they didn't even bother to write how to do it in their "wayland book", I wanted to implement it myself because QClipboard is broken under wayland in Plasma 6.1.5:

Can't be that difficult though, you might want to complain to KDE here as they must have broken it, not Wayland itself. Gnome's clipboard managers where broken for a while too, but any that's still kept up to date is working again for years now. And when it only stopped working with Plasma 6.1.5, KDE must have broken it as it must have already worked with previous versions.

Wlroots has been doing this for ages, they have their own batch of wlr-* protocols for use today on sway (and often picked up by other compositors) while they're getting upstreamed into wayland proper:
