I even remember the last straw for me, when I updated my system and an AMD driver update caused it to crash every 5 minutes (literally). It was usermode so it wasn't a kernel panic, but it still took down Xorg and everything I was working on. Went to Windows, driver crashed again. The screen flickered for a second, everything was still open. Pretty much swore off Linux from that point. Of course, it wasn't only that, it was a million things, but that was it for me.
I am eagerly waiting for the ecosystem to get better, and it is quite nearly there, enough for me to try it again. Pulse is gone, Xorg is gone, Nix exists. I'm excited for all of it. I would like it to be a viable replacement for Windows since Windows is starting to get a little unreasonable.
Have a question for you. Did you have the instability when playing games or general usage? I have been using Linux/KDE for years on my workstation with no issues, but I do ZERO gaming on it. I say this as a non-gamer that the gaming portion of Linux is moving so fast (and hopefully for the better but I can't speak for that) that it does just appear to be a continuous effort to stay current.

I didn't really play games, still don't. Played Minecraft, which had rendering bugs (probably nvidia's fault).
Mostly why I'm fine with going back to it, since gaming is second priority to me. If I can play Minecraft and Portal then I'm happy.
I actually only really program, which is supposed to be the easiest demographic to please on Linux, so things were really bad.

By the way, those would have caused Linux to kernel panic as well.
Good for you. Me and my friend got dozens of BSODs just like a lot of other people.

It's almost as if a piece of software that's 30 years old and used by billions of people might have a large pool of people who have experienced issued with it. Weird how statistics work.

windows fanaticism at its best. It seems you have missed an original winboy comment who criticized Linux for problem one person experienced while playing a windows game.

Not only is this post a non-sequitur but you're calling me unnecessary names when I haven't called you anything.
Are you trolling? You're making Linux users look bad, are you doing that intentionally? I'm planning to switch back to it soon and now you're making me worry if people will think I'm as hostile as you.

Nice try strawman. Do you think using latin bs makes you look smarter? You're making windows fanboys look even worse than they're usually are. I don't care what you're trying to do. Oh, and there are much more Linux devices and they work like a harm from stability standpoint: Android. So your comment about statistics is worth nothing.

You can't even type because of your anger.

Yeah, it seems things are really bad, so better stop typing.

So Personally I have a lot of kde window glitches where part of my screen will constantly redraw and create shadows of windows I move around. I haven't seen / tested this on single monitor setups because.. well.. i just use it less like that...

but for me having kde, wayland, xwaland apps, and multiple gpu's while also driving multiple displays.. it happens at least once a day if not more. And that's without any sort of game. Just a browser and discord.
