Wayland + XWayland + GNOME + nvidia here, working fine for like 2.5 years. I don't know how, I'm surprised seeing all the complaints.

I don't understand this Unity + MIR thing: didn't Canonical [finally] dropped them and switched back to GNOME + Wayland? Shouldn't they be dead?

The strength of FOSS is that a company stopping work on a project doesn't kill the project.

In this case, Canonical did stop contributing to Unity and Unity8, but both projects have carried on without them.

And no, Canonical has not stopped investing in Mir.
