Might have to take another look at unity8 on the desktop at some stage in the future to see how far they have come

they had a working display years ago, go with wayland need many more work and continues buggy as hell. After many years nobody can even play a fps using wayland and a good desktop distro need to use X because wayland it's simple broken

It's what I predicted would happen with Mir a few years back. Canonical could have been much further along if Mir spoke Wayland from the start, but controlling the stack and owning it through CLA looked enticing back then.

I don't want to detract from the progress that has been made, but the main article seems to conflate what has been achieved with what is unfinished. The blogpost section in question begins:

"Our road from mirclient to wayland has been bumpy, and we are still not at the finish line. ... and we still have a number of things that still needs to be reworked."

That rework is essential before a usable system is "done".

Wayland is just a protocol, calling it buggy is like calling TCP buggy.

I hope Unity8 will be available for an easy PC install this year as I hate Gnome 3 and KDE has other serious problems.
