    The problem is that there are no relatively inexpensive hmd devices "cardboard vr is not complete". Valve is very expensive at times, oculus with his policies and the null intention of making him walk linux. WMR good price but the problem "Windows software". I don't know how to motivate using hmd in linux. It would be interesting a canonical hmd.

      Just like anything, the FOSS community is better off on its own. Grab a cheap second hand HMD (Rift DK1, DK2, Vive) and use OpenHMD. Yes you wont have Steam and its games but you can develop pretty much anything you want and it will even run on a Raspberry Pi.

      OpenHMD basically reverse engineered the lenses whilst Valve and Facebook were pretending to support OpenXR. It is immediately usable. You just need to change your habits slightly in order for VR to work well for you. But yes, consumer VR is basically moving towards sleazy phone games and app stores.
