Is Weston useable as a desktop compositor compared to something more featureful like sway/wlroots?

Weston is the reference implementation for Wayland. Its useable, but probably not the most featureful. Weston probably could be used as a base for making a more featureful environment. Other environments like Gnome KDE and so on already have their own code and are being ported to Wayland as well. Wayland is a protocol so you can implement it all with your own code or use a library. With X, the window manager and the server were seperate. Most people use X.org and chose their window manager. With wayland, the window manager provides the server as well. It leads to a greater risk of incompatible implementations developing. Previously, apps talked to the server and could count on the server supporting the same protocol, regardless of what the window manager is.
