Yes at the moment --no-x11 built into compositor is not an option. Some point in future it could down right be. Libreoffice short time after getting GTK3 support was able to-do wayland support.

The question here how many of those items that use Electron would be ported if Electron does port.
I think app that use Electron will have to be ported at some point, as Wayland is clearly going to replace X11 in the (near) future. So they can't keep depending on X11 when X11 is eventually going to be deprecated.

Well, Firefox haven't released yet with official Wayland support.
There is some code in Firefox for Wayland support, and its an ongoing effort, but its not ready yet.
It is possible to build Firefox with Wayland support.
There are Firefox binaries compiled with Wayland support available. From the Firefox nightly.

Firefox nightly only needs to enable Wayland support now. This would allow us to start testing it on other distributions besides Fedora. The flatpak from the main Firefox Wayland developer is not getting updated at the moment. What is not ready on Firefox on Wayland are the corner cases like WebRTC, but I guess as Firefox nightly is the testing branch most of us could live without these special cases.

Do you even read the things you write? 'Cause the point was NOT that Firefox has official Wayland support. You clearly stated "does not support Wayland yet". So that's what I responded to. Whether or not it's officially released for Wayland is a different matter.

Wayland is a mixed bag of performance still. There are cases where wayland solutions out perform X11 ones. So things are getting better the bad performance of wayland compositors and applications is reducing. Of course wayland promise of higher performance does turn out to be the case when the bugs are not in the way.

Debugging software and standards is not a fast process.
