and this was the only reason for game engine developers to also support directX... microsoft lost the battle.
I have seen no such marketshare numbers that suggest this

Only in sales. If you look at the user numbers, Sony has still quite a way to go. And that is the actual number developers look at. Sales numbers are merely a projection if that may eventually shift enough to bother with anything else. But as long as Sony doesn't even have 50 % market share, not to mention Microsoft still being quite relevant, no game developer will just ditch DirectX.

Quarium is just confusing momentary sales number with actual user market share. XBox is still sitting at a comfortable 63 %, so it will be at least another year or two until Sony even gained 50 % of the actual market share.

No, you are using the term incorrectly. Market share is defined as percentage of sales in a given time period.
What you are referring to is installed base (share of products that are in use by customers).

Only from the viewpoint of the hardware vendors. But they are irrelevant in this discussion. This is about DirectX and consequently about game developers using it or not. So their market is the actual users, not sales numbers. As in how many people can be their user base if the support e.g. both DirectX and GNM/GNMX vs dropping DirectX and thus losing the whole XBox user base. And like I said, sales numbers are only an indicator to them how their market may change in the future, but not the relevant number in this discussion. The "installed base" for them is how many of the XBox/PS5/whatever user base is actually installing their game. With 63 % market share for the XBox, it can still happen that pretty much nobody actually plays it on the XBox.

you only talk about the past.. in the future DirectX will not have any relevance anymore.

The relevant market figure for them is not number of users, but how much these users are willing to buy, also known as Total Addressable Market (TAM). Again that is talking about sales, not owners.

You have to use the precise terms and don't confuse them, or else people will have a hard time making sense of your posts.

Wrong. That's onyl a very small portion of what's relevant to them. Sales are only relevant long-term, but long-term XBox still is very relevant. For now only short term figures aren't looking too good for them
