I think there is a problem with the Phoronix test suite on FreeBSD 12. I try to install the browser benchmarks and then it complains that pip3 is not installed. But py39-pip is installed and I think that's the only pip package available for FreeBSD 12.

The specific benchmark I am interested in is Maze Solver. Is there a webpage where I can do this benchmark with my browser? Is it the same bench as the standard test from the following website? https://testdrive-archive.azurewebsi...r/Default.html
You did a benchmark comparison where you come to the conclusion that Linux is almost twice as fast as FreeBSD, but that is not correct according to my own tests. With Clear Linux I get 74.x in Speedometer 2.0 in Firefox, and with FreeBSD I get 89.7 in Brave through the Linux compatibility layer.
On Windows, there's very little difference between Brave and Firefox in Speedometer 2.0. I feel like Brave on FreeBSD can be slightly faster than on Clear Linux. Some apps also launch faster on FreeBSD than on Clear Linux, so I feel like they're generally much closer together in performance than what you've found.Last edited by Classical; 06 September 2022, 01:13 PM.

Your results with the 3970X (32 core): https://www.phoronix.com/review/chrome-80-benchmarks/4
Your results with the 5950X: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Firefox-95-Chrome-97
An i3 3240 beats expensive and much newer 16 and 32 core CPUs here.
Based on my results, I can say that Brave in FreeBSD is competitive with Clear Linux in Speedometer 2.0, JetStream 2, Kraken 1.1 and Maze Resolver and many other benchmarks.
Overall, I can say that despite the old and cheap hardware, the system with the XFCE desktop is extremely snappy and has a similar day-to-day productivity in the most common situations as the latest MacBook Pro notebooks.
Would you like me to install Clear Linux on my system to do a comprehensive comparison with FreeBSD on this specific hardware?Last edited by Classical; 07 September 2022, 07:59 AM.
