    While Apple still isn't officially supporting the Vulkan graphics/compute API in remaining focused on their Metal drivers, MoltenVK at least has been updated for Vulkan 1.2 in allowing developers to target this Vulkan-to-Metal abstraction layer for macOS and iOS...

    This would be a good thing for Elder Scrolls Online on MacOS, except that the developer (ZOS) compiled MoltenVK into the native binary, so you can't upgrade it. They don't upgrade it themselves hardly ever, so ESO users on Mac might luck out and take advantage of this code at some point in 2020. Maybe.

      Except it doesn't. MoltenVK doesn't support all 1.2 features. It doesn't even support all 1.1 features.

        but does it support enough to correctly handle vulkan games? what features are missing support and why do they matter?

          Hi, this is just a report of "things" missing in MoltenVK to support DXVK now that Wine supports Vulkan on MacOS via MoltenVK (I use v1.0.12 included in Vulkan MacOS SDK 1.0.77).. I tested DXVK 0.6...


          Those are mostly DXVK related which dxvk itself is the huge part that will give MoltenVK a solid use case.

          That being said ; Dota 2, Dota Underlords (both IOS and MacOS ) , FFXIV, ESO are the current games top games utilizes MVK.

          ESO is really bad in performance terms iirc. Others works nicely.
