Phoronix: Mesa's On-Disk Shader Cache Revised For The 7th Time

Timothy Arceri of Collabora has now revised the massive patch-set implementing an on-disk shader cache for Mesa with the work nearing completion, at least for the Intel i965 driver...

What is the meaning of "SSO" in this context?

I'm really looking forward to this. If the fp64 patches for haswell and ivybridge (plus maybe vulkan support) will land for 13.1, too, it would improve the out-of-the-box gaming situation a lot for me (and the many ivybridge/haswell users).

AMD cards should have this too. Deus Ex is the proof.

Yes, please also for the Radeon stack. https://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/ also contains a few red spots - some of them are present for an extended time already. Otoh, some of them probably suffer somewhat from the manpower being shifted to support the new and upcoming chips. Also the double precision emulation via SW e.g. for a couple of cards from the r600 realm would be fancy (not sure if they are allowed to advertise OpenGL 4.0 capabilities without it, even if most games don't use it).
Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!

Better late and done right, than a half baken non-standard way.
It would be really great to finally see it happen for Intel and Radeon drivers.

                Thank you, that makes sense.

Reiser4/DAL syndrome? Wow! Did the bosses fire a shitload of developers at the Intel Open-Source Technology Center or what?

No, you are just bunching together completely unrelated pieces of code and trolololololling for lulz.

Reiser4 = they didn't want to fix reported issues and trolled hard then the lead got jailed because reasons and code is on life-support although pretty much obsolete by now
DAL = huge code drop from hell (windows), everyone knew it would take a while to get something useful out of it
this patch = incremental feature addition about a relatively complex matter.
