        This would avoid that though. In about ten years firefox has gone about 40 major versions. This scheme would advance exactly ten major versions in ten years.
        Only point at which it would become ridiculous is if we are still maintaining Mesa in year 2101; and if that's the case then what's the point to trying in life?

              that kind of versioning would make sense in entire X.org package bundle. instead of wondering what belongs into each xorg release, we could just compare release dates.

              in case of mesa alone - not really sure.
