Need help fixing overscan with open source drivers

I installed Mint 17.2 on my HTPC to replace Windows and my problem is that my Mitsubishi DLP HDTV sucks cause it has overscan and there's no way to disable this. So in Windows I fixed this by using 1776x1000 but with open source drivers I can't seem to correct this. I can add 1776x1000 60hz but it doesn't fill the screen. Catalyst has no problem with 1776x1000 and does fill the screen, but I would rather use open source drivers like from Oibaf. Catalyst uses 1776x1000 30hz which got me thinking that I should use 30 instead of 60, but this resulted in no picture.

Then I go to display and there's the choice for 1776x1000 which does work but doesn't fill the screen. Is there anyway to see exactly what Catalyst is using to fill the screen so I can set it with the open source drivers? Cause all it tells me is 1776x1000 30hz. Any amount of help would be great cause I hate using Catalyst.

Can't you tell your driver to use underscan explicitly using xrandr?

$ xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set underscan on

Also why do you use sudo?

You may in addition need to set underscan vborder and hborder explictly. E.g.

$ xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set underscan on --set "underscan vborder" 40 --set "underscan hborder" 72

or somesuch.

Tried that, and non of that works. So far I've installed Catalyst and setting it to a lower resolution like 1776x1000 or some other resolution I'm using will fill the screen. Going back to open source and non of those resolutions are there and I tried to add them but results in a slightly smaller picture that doesn't fill the screen. BTW Catalyst 15.9 doesn't actually give me overscan controls, it just detects the EDID of my TV which is a Mitsubishi DLP 73727. Some reason when I go back to open source I can never get to fill properly.

I'm using Kernel 3.19 cause Catalyst 15.9 just doesn't support anything higher and also haven't installed Oibaf PPA cause ppa-purge doesn't work very well honestly. I've used "get-edid | parse-edid" and it shows this. Well it shows more but this is the only part I think that matters. BTW 1080p have never worked properly on this TV, even in Windows. I've always used 1776x1000 or some other resolution.

Catalyst says it uses the 1600x900 mode which radeon seems to not detect. xrandr says that underscan is active.
Next thing you could try is

$ xrandr --output HDMI-0 --transform 1.05,0,-35,0,1.05,-19,0,0,1

Anyway, xrandr thinks that it applied the underscan property while the driver apparently doesn't. Maybe report a bug.
