Phoronix: Mesa Gets Closer To Having OpenGL 4.0 Tessellation Support

A significant patch-set was published on Saturday night that implements the driver-independent bits of OpenGL 4's ARB_tessellation_shader extension inside Mesa...

I didn't expect this to happen so soon. I'm stunned and thrilled, in equal parts. We are actually getting ahead of Apple in OpenGL support, how awesome is that?

One thing I am really looking forward to is ARB_direct_state_access from GL4.5. If the current rate of progress holds, I'd expect this to happen before the end of 2015.

With that done, we can focus on OpenGL next and actually stand in equal footing with the closed-source drivers. Linux is finally a strong contender in real-time 3d graphics!

I think GL_ARB_shader_subroutine is no small task, in GL 4.0, and it is not started. So it may take some time, before we get to GL4.2 compliance.

Not sure why Michael didn't bother to look at the patches, but a lot of them were actually written by "Fabian Bieler", who I assume is the GSoC student originally working on the whole tessellation shebang inside Mesa before he went missing.

        Edit: Yep, it's him: https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/...76830073815040

Nice indeed, 4.2 is quite close now.

Have a look at http://mesamatrix.net/ - it is a PHP script that parses GL3.txt and puts it into a nice colored matrix. It's a nice graphical way of keeping track of Mesa's features

                But I still can't use my HD6670 with xf86 nor catalyst =(

No, I didn't, but I am involved in the development of it (have a look at https://github.com/MightyCreak/mesamatrix)
