The Direct3D 9 state tracker could prove to be the most important project since the original release of the Mesa graphics library...

Or the most over-dramatic title of the year

The only interesting I see, is porting already existing applications could be easier + WINE will be much better.

Using this as the main game development api would be dumb.

could be good for people porting games to linux. it would no longer require porting the engine to openGL.

also might be handy for the reactos folk.

Bullshit since almost one uses Gallium3D.

            nonsense

Unless this is implemented in proprietary drivers, then this guy is just wasting his time. What sane person is going to switch back and fourth between Graphics drivers to play games, It's silly.

a lot of people using amd cards prefer the open drivers...and performance is improving constantly on the open radeon drivers (though still not at the proprietary drivers level.

this is only true for nvidia

The problem with proprietary drivers is that developers can't experiment with thing like this.

Yes they might have the edge in performance now, but open drivers are great for new features. and there is no fundamental reason they can perform better.

Besides, old cards like mine (hd4770) aren't supported by newer kernels using the propietary blob, so yeah, this news should be read as "possibly a speed bump in wine for users under gallium 3d" nothing less, nothing more.
