Updated and Optimized Ubuntu Free Graphics Drivers

Hi again.
I ended compiling, opening a bug and tracking for the the commit that caused it.

The gallium i915 is unmantained and in deprecation period.
In my eeepc 1005p lubuntu 16.04 when I install drivers from the Oibaf repo this driver installs as default and the one in the alternative folder is different (can't use it with the last version of Blender) that the one I get when compiling:

I can not update or install 32-bit packages from version 17.2~git1707090730.f3958f~gd~y to 17.2~git1707130730.c3b5c2~gd~y. Is this just Debian testing problem, repository does not have new packages or bug in packages?

When trying to install Steam to a fresh Debian testing installation, apt-get gives:

Yakkety is EOL now, make sure to remove the PPA:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers

and upgrade to zesty.
Then you can add the zesty PPA again.

So when I use the oibaf ppa with my i915 laptop the graphics stopped working. No Kodi or Minecraft will work. Removing the drivers with "sudo ppa-purge -d xenia ppaibaf/graphics-drivers" will get it working again, minus latest drivers. I see i915 broken so will it ever be fixed?

Dukenukemx, I have the same gpu chipset and I had the same problems as you before this update:

It should be fixed in tomorrow update.

Now Minecraft works for me without any issues. Oibaf just turned off these gallium drivers in that update. So programs which require OpenGL 2.1 won't work without terrible freezes and using this command:

MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=2.1 <path_or_name_of_executable_file>

The real problem with these i915 drivers that gallium version of them is unmaintained any more. To fix this permanent issue with segfault at i915_dri.so you need a sponsor who will pay for its fix or ask someone who will compile and upload them for you.

I would also like to learn how to build a working version of i915 gallium drivers which were working before that update in february 2017.

How related is this to the Padoka PPA? Because on my Radeon HD 7850 machine the latest update from Padoka creates digital vomit on my screen as soon a I boot into Mint 18.2 Cinnamon. I know Padoka is based on Oibaf, so I wonder if anyone is experiencing issues with Oibaf as well? For now a PPA purge solved my problem, though with peasant graphic drivers.

Yesterday I updated my system and after a reboot I noticed I have no panels nor can I open windows. But they are there. I can open the terminal by the shortcut and my cursor would change over it (text cursor). Also I think I could saw the panel for a split second after restaring lightdm, but it disappeared really quick like it went behind my wallpaper.

oibaf Thank you for the llvm 5.0 update works great on my system with mbab's amd's staging + ubuntu kernel . I don't need to switch between yours and padoka's ppa any longer. No real benefit for me between llvm 5 & 6 whereas the jump from 4 to 5 is noticable.
