Phoronix: Mesa 24.3 Delivers Big Performance Win For Aging AMD Navi 10 GPUs

The upcoming Mesa 24.3 graphics driver stack will deliver a very nice performance win with the Radeon "RADV" Vulkan driver for aging RDNA1 "GFX10" graphics processors...

Nice. I do wish articles about GPUs on any site would give specific example GPU models though instead of just code names. For anyone curious...

      Navi 10 = RX/W 5600/5700 series
      Navi 14 = RX/W 5300/5500 series

The 5700 series cards are quite cheap on eBay these days. I replaced every aging GPU in various machines here and for family members with RDNA 1 cards. Too bad about the 5500 series not being enabled by default though. I have several Radeon Pro W5500 cards for "basic computer stuff" type machines for family. Nice single slot + 1x 6 pin form factor, and fast enough for light gaming.

Edit: RDNA 1 is also the floor for FSR 3 frame generation AFAIR.

Technically, anything released is "aging". At least he didn't call them old.
And no, it doesn't have anything to do with ADHD. Think of it from the viewpoint of a hardware reviewer who is generally focused on latest and greatest stuff. These cards are pre-pandemic (5 years old) and two newer generations of GPU have come out since then.

The RX 5600 series is also Navi 10.

RX 5500 XT is Navi 14, and is not affected by this change because NGG is disabled due to a HW bug.

Time flies. These GPUs are holding up quite well, considering they were released more than 5 years ago.

Don't worry, there is probably still plenty of life left in that RX 480.

Yeah, I'm really happy with my 580 as well.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the current gen equivalent to my 580?
