Even Though It's Currently Slow, The Mesa NVIDIA "NVK" Vulkan Driver Has Been Making Good Progress

Phoronix: Even Though It's Currently Slow, The Mesa NVIDIA "NVK" Vulkan Driver Has Been Making Good Progress

During XDC 2023 this week in Spain, Faith Ekstrand with Collabora provided a status update on the NVK Vulkan driver that continues to be developed inside Mesa for providing open-source NVIDIA Vulkan driver support...

As I full-hardly agree with you, it should be a hobby project for those that want to learn. It's good experience for anyone, plus the honor you get if you actually cracked the code, or when Nvidia cracks down on you for being too good or being hired by them. Either way, a lot of effort has to be put on the Nvidia drivers.

Why is video about FOSS blocked by some bullshit copyright?

Glad to hear that there's still people maintaining the Nouveau kernel driver after Ben Skeggs resigned last month.

Also, I noticed that there are some Collabora template slides at the end of the NAK slide deck lol.

There is some music between the tracks, maybe there is some problem with one of the songs.

Sadly this huge effort appear for nvidia card and them have propietary driver

This morning Faith Ekstrand add this on mesa: nvk: Advertise VK_EXT_attachment_feedback_loop_layout

                https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/...976361c2af589e

this extension stay some time ago on amd but curiously appear first on nvk (part of sparse also appear on nvk first than anv) than anv, very bad feeling about intel drivers personally

however i think to jump to amd if appear good apu

                  Cool project: exists

                  Phoronix commenters: WASTE OF TIME!!11!1!!

And then you wonder why open source developers get tired and end up hating this community.

A good open source Nvidia GPU driver is a good thing. A good Vulkan GPU driver for future drivers to reference (one of the explicit goals of NVK, by the way) is even better! Collabora and Red Hat are doing fantastic work.

I keep forgetting that NVIDIA is a multi billion dollar company with how bad their Linux support is
