The new AMD Phoenix CPUs, expected soon in laptops and SFF computers (Ryzen 7x4xHS), have a hugely improved video decoder/encoder, which is also able of 8K60fps AV1 8/10 bit color decode and encode (or of AV1 2160p @ 240 fps or AV1 1080p @ 960 fps).

On AMD Phoenix, AV1 is also faster than H.265 at both encoding and decoding and than H.264 at encoding (H.264 1080p decoding works at 1200 fps !! ), so there would be no more any reason to avoid it.

If the developers decide to adopt Vulkanvideo the answer should be yes. However the official Discordclient is a bad joke on linux. No support for GPU encoding or decoding regardless of the GPU-modell or driver in use. No Discordoverlay. No Waylandsupport at all. If you want to have a solution for using Discord on linux in a way that is at least acceptable you should try Webcord in my opinion.
