Phoronix: Mesa 22.1-rc1 AMD Radeon Linux Gaming Performance vs. NVIDIA

With Mesa 22.1 having been branched and working its way towards release in early to mid May, it's a good time to deliver some fresh Linux gaming benchmarks on the latest GPU drivers. In this article are some reference benchmark results of various AMD Radeon graphics cards on Mesa 22.1-rc1 as of branching paired with Linux 5.17 and then benchmarked against NVIDIA's latest driver and various GeForce RTX GPUs.

Interesting. On Windows I would tilt toward Nvidia for slightly better 1440 & 4k performance , RT and DLSS etc (assuming mythical MSRP). But according to this, I don't see why you would go for Nvidia on Linux except for the professional stuff (machine learning, ray tracing, etc.)

Amazing performance on AMD's side, and that with open source drivers!
Thhank you very much for the benchmarks!

Nice comparison! A comparison that included Windows would have been a cherry on top.

Sad that there are no Total War games included. Hopefully Feral gets the native port of WH3 out sooner rather than later (although I guess Three Kingdoms is an OK benchmark still).

Off topic: If anyone needs a "cheap" gpu that can manage only with the power from the pci express port, then the Radeon rx 6400 is a great card. Got one for 140euro.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Vega 56 performance looks unusual.
Thermal throttling, not enough memory or some other issue?

Also curious, did any of the cards hang during testing?

the 3090 is 1849€ in germany
                    the 6800XT is 912 € in germany...

this means linux gamers who buy AMD save: 937€

                    whaŧ is really awesome.

this means as soon as WebGPU/WebAssembly is the defacto standard of GPU-Compute instead of Cude _Nvidia is gone.
