Phoronix: Mesa Begins Trek Bringing Up Arm Mali "Valhall" Graphics

The Panfrost Gallium3D OpenGL driver and PanVK open-source drivers in Mesa have come a long way via reverse-engineering for Arm Mali graphics support. However, to this point the focus has been on Arm's "Midgard" and "Bifrost" architectures while the newer "Valhall" architecture has been around the past two years. The Panfrost effort for bringing up Valhall is now getting underway...

Is good to see support for Valhall coming to mesa..

In my opinion, and its just my opinion, XML is not the best format for this, but mesa use it..
In my opinion there are out there better solutions, json being only one case..
When will mesa change to json or other less pedantic format?

      Nice.

The XML seems easy enough to follow, better than the mess of acronyms used for some other GPUs *cough*AMD*cough*.

I do however object to the use of the word "yeeted" in a commit message.

There's also incomplete support for Valhall in the Ghidra reverse engineering tool at https://gitlab.com/icecream95/valhall-ghidra, which can apparently be used with another tool to get core dumps from the blob driver to import into Ghidra even if you don't actually have a Valhall GPU.

I'm also hearing rumors about an emulator being developed.

Lots of things happening in the Valhall space at the moment.

Great work as always. eventually I would love to see mali's craptastic drivers replaced by mesa foss ones.

You are assuming that its a late SoC to come to market...
Does you thought about the possibility of it being cancelled?

Benchmarks are showing up for it and Radxa has confirmed it will be in the Rock "Formerly Known As Pi" 5:

We have the first benchmarks for Rockchip RK3588 processor as an Android 12 device based on the SoC has just appeared on Geekbench.
