When Vulkan was ignored on Android? Developers used OpenGL ES to target earlier versions of Android or devices without Vulkan support. Even on Android 10 OpenGL ES is still supported - as I recall correctly Google also want to implement OpenGL ES on top of Vulkan to simplify drivers and graphics stack. OpenGL ES won't be abandoned in near future because why it would be? As for updates and fragmentation - do you want to talk about fact Windows 7 still has almost 28 % marketshare? Why Windows 10 still can't dominate market?

DX12 is used mostly because it's mandatory on Xbox. You can't say same thing about Vulkan because there is no popular device (well, excluding Stadia now) where Vulkan would be only option. Just look how many years passed before developers stopped using DirectX 9.
Playstation 5 also doesn't make use of Vulkan, regardless of what might be rumoured around, still good old Sony 3D APIs.

Windows 7 can have whatever market share it likes, because DirectX 12 is also available there, in case you missed the memo.

We publish binaries and documents to allow game developers to run their DirectX 12 games on Windows 7.

OpenGL ES is also not available in game consoles by the way, and on the way out on Apple devices.

The fact is that most professional game studios use middleware in some form, and don't care one bit for the native 3D APIs being used, it is just a build configuration.

because the most established platform with the most gamers and games played is linux(android)

Not a surprising one, either, considering they did exactly the same thing before the Witcher 3 release by adding HairWorks nvidia code designed to slow down the game on AMD cards.

Fair enough,.. However, my comment is valid for games as in "desktop games", which is the context of this thread.

When it comes to "mobile games", then many things change. Mobile and desktop games are pretty much a separate worlds. Many games don't get to be distributed to the other platform, as the game mechanics is designed for the target platform (mobile, desktop,..). And, as of ports, they are heavily adjusted anyway, because mobile platform is much weaker, and input methods are different (touch vs keyboard+mouse vs joystick vs ...).

Ah, NVIDIA Crapworks. Last time I checked it was great at choking NVIDIA cards too

Actually no, that is what Linux fans say to themselves to feel good.

Linux is an implementation detail of Android, not visible to user space as per NDK Stable APIs.

Android games target ISO C, ISO C++, OpenGL, Vulkan, OpenSL and Android native APIs.

They can be easily recompiled to any platform with those APIs, for example Fuchsia, and yet the large majority of those games are not to be found either on Steam or any other store that targets GNU/Linux.

you can say exactly same thing about windows. and you even have wine implementing its stable apis

which doesn't make those games non-linux(or windows)

fuchsia doesn't exist(btw, only clueless linux hater can imagine any impact on linux from it), android games can be run on linux without recompiling. "not found on store X" does not mean "non-linux". android apps are supported on chromebooks(the only growing desktop segment) out of the box, now you are going to extend your fantasy to "chromeos is not linux" ?

Apparently yes, otherwise Google wouldn't need to spend money porting Steam into ChromeOS,https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/0...-to-chrome-os/

So that Linux kernel isn't helping. neither the US school system, the only place where Chromebooks are growing worldwide.

Enjoy your warm feeling that Android has a Linux kernel, meanwhile I have some AAA games to play.

there's no amount of money spent disclosed and even if it was, it's non sequitur. what google does is called "integration"

the important part is that chromebooks are growing while rest of desktops shrinks
