Phoronix: VC4 Gallium3D Gets Much Faster Texture Upload/Download Performance, Helping GLAMOR

It's been a while since last having major progress to report on the Broadcom VideoCore 4 (VC4) open-source driver stack most notably used by the Raspberry Pi boards or the next-generation Broadcom VideoCore "V3D" driver stack. The lack of recent progress has been due to lead developer Eric Anholt being away on paternity leave, but he is back now with another update on this open-source ARM graphics undertaking...

Does this fix the bug where enabling the 3D driver worsens 2D performance?

It seems like it probably helps, not sure if that's enough to reverse the performance delta (which I wasn't aware of, by the way).

I don't think GPU is enabled by default in Raspbian. In spite of all the hype surrounding 3D, for most use cases 2D rendering speed is more important. Unless you are running games.
