Phoronix: Mesa 18.2 Is Releasing Soon With Many OpenGL / Vulkan Driver Improvements

Mesa 18.2.0 is expected to be released in the days ahead as the latest quarterly feature release to this collection of open-source user-space graphics driver components. As has been the case each quarter for particularly the past few years, these timed quarterly releases are quite feature-packed...

Ooh, is there a Radeon with ASTC decoders in it, or does this mean something else?

There are very long freezes in Serious Sam Fusion presumably due to shader compilation. mesa-18.1 was much better in that regard.

This Mesa version is going to be incredible for AMD users. So many improvements! A big "thank you" to everyone involved!

Is there any chance that mesa will in the future support vulkan on intel hd graphics 3000 (sandy bridge)? Anyone knows what is blocking it?

No one is working on it. Intel developers have other more pressing work for newer hardware, so I really wouldn't count on ever seeing it... Plus the hardware is too slow to be really meaningful for current Vulkan games.

I always get a bit of a chunkle when I see Kaveri APUs get mentioned as "Kaveri" means "Buddy" in Finnish.

I get a nice warm fuzzy feeling seeing such a large chunk of Mesa's "todo list" checked off.

Indeed, warm feelings when I think of finally playing RAGE and Escape from Butcher Bay again but this time on Linux. Only thing left is Valve to integrate Wine into Steam.
