Phoronix: Allwinner Releases New User-Space OpenGL Mali Binary Blobs

Last year Allwinner began making OpenGL user-space binaries more readily available for Linux systems in cooperation with Free Electrons (now Bootlin), A new set of OpenGL binaries has now been released that includes Wayland support...

Nice. What can we expect next? Allwinner BSP packs will transition from kernel 1.2 to 2.0? Will they upgrade to U-Boot 1995.01?

GBM since ARM DDK does not support EGLstreams.

Does this mean that the Pinebook will have acellerated graphics? Might actually be fast enough to be a usefull ARM computer....
It's too bad the Pinebook is not using a Rockchip RK3399 at least, with an extra 2 A72 cores, it should have reasonable speed.

Who would've thought Allwinner would beat NVIDIA to somewhat proper Wayland support in a binary blob?

Hm? ARM SoC vendors (and by extension, their GPU suppliers) have been on the Wayland train for quite some time. And in contrast to NVidia, nobody else had reservations against GBM.

This is pretty cool. I've been very hesitant about any Allwinner chips due to their historically poor GPU support, but at this point it sounds like they've come up with a pretty solid system that overcomes the challenges of the drivers.
I'm guessing Bootlin only works for Allwinner chips, and not other chips using Mali graphics?

Remember that Allwinner is one of those companies who violated GPLv2 by not distributing their modified Linux source just a few years ago.

I don't get what this "news" is about. ARM keeps their binary blobs here for everyone to see; https://developer.arm.com/products/s...ers/user-space
