Phoronix: To No Surprise, It Appears NVIDIA Is Already Working On Pascal Linux Support

Landing as a fix this week inside the Linux kernel appears to be an indication that NVIDIA's Linux engineers are already working on their next-generation hardware support...

Weren't the pascal chips already named G100 (presumably high end) and G104 (presumably mid end) it could be something else, like a new Quadro series or something. Don't jump to conclusions so easily!

They should be close to having the pascal drivers ironed out by now, the card itself is probably already fully developed and in a testing and QA phase (or something like that).

Then again considering the timing, it could really be for pascal, but something is fishy, they have no reason to hide the chip name, they could just say it's for their upcoming pascal series cards, why wouldn't they?

AMD has been more upfront about their chips so maybe nvidia should top that.

          Fermi chips (GF1xx)
          Kepler chips (GKxxx)
          First generation Maxwell (GM10x)
          Second generation Maxwell (GM20x)

          Prediction: Pascal chips (GPxxx)

That addresses only half of the problem. We also don't know what will be released. In the past few years Nvidia has been launching top-tier cards first and mainstream cards (much) later. As some uninterested in $300+ cards, what I need to know is when mainstream Pascal lands. I've even seen one report placing mainstream Pascal no earlier than 2017. On the other hand, after being held back by 28nm for so long, it's not inconceivable for Nvidia to launch a full lineup at once. Unfortunately marketing and sales play a big role in this, so as long as there's no official statement/hint, no one can predict what they'll do.

From previous experience we can expect the current drivers to have working support already, after all, Nvidia is in the final testing phase.

But we do. Pascal will be demonstrated in april and the first model should be available in Q2. More consumer models will arrive in Q3, and a GP100 consumer model might not arrive before Q4.

So...when they drop a Pascal ARM board, how fast should the TX1 board drop in price? I really, really want that board.

I could use a source for all that.
