As most developers (as I assume) use GTX cards, without MY help, the "GPU lockup" issue will probably never be solved for "our" cards.

Actually developers tend to use the cheapest slowest cards, at least I know I do. Not going to spend lots of $$ for the privilege of developing drivers for NVIDIA for free. I don't see so much as a bug filed about your issue, by the way. Go through the proper channels, and good things might happen. At least the issue will be known.
