    • AMD cards have a radeon or amdgpu driver
    • Intel cards have i### drivers
    • Nvidia cards could have a gforce or nvgpu driver.
Bonus points for NVGPU since it can stand for both NouVeauGPU or NVidia GPU.
gforce you need to look at Nvidia trademarks https://www.trademarkelite.com/trade...646210/G-FORCE.

https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pa...ouveau-XDC2017 NVGPU is a driver Nvidia already makes and is trademarked as well.

Nouveau basically comes about to have a name for a driver that has some Nvidia like parts that is not conflicting with existing Nvidia made drivers or hitting Nvidia trademarks.

Hmm. Fortunately gforce is different than g(HYPHEN)force. Unfortunately, GFORCE Software is a thing so

OK, NFORCE -- to get around folks trying to enforce their trademarks

Oh Snap, GeFarce. Can't believe I didn't think of that earlier

EDIT: I should have Googled NFORCE before posting

Horrible with trademark law in the usa gforce and g-force are the same thing when it comes to a court case over trademarks due to precedence..

          https://thetrademarkwatchcompany.com...-how-to-avoid/
There are examples here. The reality here is the law says consumer confusion. Even if Nvidia had never done nforce motherboard chipset they could argue that nforce is close enough to g-force to cause confusion so be trademark infrignment. Same problem with Gefarce. You have to be far enough away that the two cannot be confused with each other with trademark law. It was not simple picking the current name.

Hitting trademarks I should have been more exact being too close to a trademark you will hit it. The legal define that its infringment of the party can argue consumer confusion is a big thing. Google had to pay out u-tube the metal company because youtube was to close to the u-tube trademark and they did not do enough to make sure to avoid consumer confusion. Yes was kind of proven when u-tube website was getting flooded with requests.

The reality is using any name that got force in it even farce is mostly likely in trademark infringement zone with a Nvidia hardware driver not made by Nvidia.

Really if I renamed it I would go MissingNvidiaDriver. Nvidia could not complain about this name because it statement of fact and the open source driver is to fill in when the Nvidia provided driver is missing..

            Oh come on...

            n: not
            ou: into
            v: vicious
            eau: saw (close enough)

            Not that difficult to pronounce.
