    I don't believe you for a second. Should be no more illegal than extracting the bios from your playstation to use it in an emulator.

      Maybe. At least, redistribution is prohibited - that is why you have to do it yourself and not download them with package manager. Sorry for being unclear.

        I wouldn't say that with such certainty. I don't know if they do it, but say they have some kind of copy protection mechanism in place and you need to bypass it. it then does become illegal in many countries. there are plenty of things to complicate things
