Granted I don't know how linux friendly they are, but one can have them with coffee lake cpu and RX 570 dgpu.

This could be a valid option I guess (doesn't have an i7 processor but it's fine). Not a fan of gaming laptops look, but I've seen worse models in that sense.
Anyway, I'll wait one more month before deciding; the UK based PCSpecialist LafiteIII laptop also looks good and has some advantages (although no discrete GPU).

Not really what I am looking for; I look more for top processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD; and better if dedicated graphics (not necessarily top model). Also, DisplayPort for my 4k monitor.

They are investing in open source stack, not in the blob if I understood correctly.

Why invest in closed source NVidia, when AMD ROCm look promising in near future.

nVidia currently has virtually 100% market share when it comes to deep learning and it will take a long time before that changes dramatically. So, Red Hat has to keep supporting nVidia for the time being even if ROCm picks up.

I am on a hunt for a new well specced laptop and I can tell you that it's hard to find a decent laptop without Nvidia graphics if you want mid-level (or better)

I don't expect that either, until they'll lose market share a lot.

Hard for them to lose market share when the competitors are invisible on the market (at least in Italy).
I am on a hunt for a new well specced laptop and I can tell you that it's hard to find a decent laptop without Nvidia graphics if you want mid-level (or better) performance.
I may have to adjust with Intel graphics at the end because AMD has too few models available (and those few don't suit me well).
