    Is this possible that

    ati-driver-installer-8-10-x86.x86_64.run == 8.54.3

Because I found that version number in my amdcccle (Catalyst Control Center)

I used the 8.10 from AMD Website on Arch Linux/2.6.27 (with patch) and XServer 1.4.2

I think the 8.10 ist the best driver ever for me. Better 2D and 3D Performance.

Tried your script Kano, it installs without problems, but I couldnt get gdm to work. I've received error saying fglrx couldnt be loaded. So as for now I'll stick to the repos 8.11 beta ;x

check this, only fglrx should be seen loaded, if not reboot. I tested my script with a modified ati installer on intrepid and had the correct output.
    Code:
    fglrx 1813960 28
    agpgart 42184 2 fglrx,intel_agp
Dunno what I have to check in /usr/lib/

I'll try to install the driver manually and use your script Kano ;-)

I didn't install that, but to make sure I've checked synaptic and my guess was right. Its not installed.

My system is Ubuntu 8.10 beta + all updates there were released.

    EDIT :

The funny thing is, that fglrxinfo returns :
    Code:
    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1.8087 Release)
