On github System Requirements are given as "Ubuntu 14.04, Red Hat 6.4 or later. Build with gcc 4.7.2 or later." which
sounds more current than just the two aged versions cited.

i can't say about ubuntu, except that 4.7 was released in 2012, but for rhel/centos you have devtoolset-4
