Phoronix: AMD "DAL" Being Renamed To "DC"

AMD's big display abstraction layer (DAL) code-base that's used by AMDGPU-PRO but not yet mainlined in the Linux kernel for providing HDMI 2.0, future FreeSync/Adaptive-Sync, HDMI/DP audio, and other modern display features is DAL no more...

Terrible idea. They should have renamed it to Marvel instead. Much better movies.

For those new to reading Phoronix or don't recall our dozens of articles on the topic, there is the DAL presentation from XDC2016 to provide more background information.
Michael... I know you read the forums... Precisely how many times now have AMD developers debunked this notion that you are now signal boosting? The AMD developers have said time and time again to such statements that DAL was written from scratch, It is not the open sourcing of the pre-existing fglrx code, although from what I've gathered from their statements FGLRX has been retooled to use it now.

Batman v. Superman was like watching paint dry with the sfx being used as a crutch to overcome any lack of a worthwhile story.
When Ben Affleck's acting is considered to be the "good" point of the movie, it's not a good sign.

It made as much sense and was almost as bad as the Superman standalone movie.

Indeed, IIRC DAL 3.0 was a rewrite with both Linux and and Windows in mind. As well, AFAIK the PRO stack only includes code from fglrx's user mode, adapted to work with the new open kernel level, while DAL3 is a specifically a kernel level abstraction.

Everything in DAL was too long, even the name.

Did the developers actually say this would be ready to merge in 4.11, or is that just wishful thinking?
