      Well if both Zen and Polaris end up being flops, I wonder if one of those architectures will be open sourced. I'm not sure about Zen - I don't think Intel would allow any x86 architecture to become open sourced.

            Who cares at this point? I find it difficult to support GPL 3 anymore and just find happiness in companies like AMD putting in an honest open source effort.

                Are you serious? That's not gonna happen. It would essentially throw away all the value this company has. Asian chip "designers" would just pick the design up and sell it cheap. AMD already has bad standing so why should they throw away their expertise only 3 companies worldwide have on this level?
                Also, there is 3rd party IP in those designs which means you can't OS them. And btw based on what we know, I don't see a big chance of a flop when you don't have exorbitant expectations.
