  • I thought that with kernel 4.7 i could use amdgpu but seems it's not ready and i have to wait for kernel 4.8.

i asked for to know what i will need when was posible to use gnc1.0

then i will enable amd gpu, userptr and may be powerplay in kernel.

ah one thing: what about ac3, dts... hdmi bitstream support on agmgpu, woud be better than radeon? i have to use windows to take maximum profit of my multimedia on dual monitor through my hifi.

    thanks

    • If anyone is interested in creating the Kernel packages for Arch with one command, here's my PKGBUILD for reference (or just direct use): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/am...aster/PKGBUILD

      config: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/am.../master/config
      config.x86_64: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/am.../config.x86_64

I'll later post the scripts to build Mesa, and libdrm (currently compiling the Kernel).

I'm compiling Mesa against LLVM 3.9 (svn, from the AUR).

        with the command:git clone -b drm-next-4.8-wip-si git://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/linux
then the future options will be like this?

I'm tempted to try these options but...i need specífic mesa and newer amgpu drivers, how somebody have written here.
it not worked, may be mesa-9999 https://tinyurl.com/gvlvz9l not have amdgpu-si support right now
        it't too early

        • Just to be clear, GCN 1.0 support in amdgpu is still under development; anyone who just wants to use their system should be running radeon rather than amdgpu.

          • I even use radeon on GCN 1.1, not sure what 1.0 people trying to found in amdgpu

My logic is - if or until AMD promote it as default driver, i will sit where i am

              Vulkan.

And with any luck https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96721 doesn't happen on amdgpu. I don't think this is going to be fixed any time soon since AMD seems to have better things to do than fix catastrophic crashes in the radeon kernel driver.

              • Is OpenCL with AMDGPU any different than if with Radeon?

If you are still seeing that problem repo with current kernels can you please update the ticket accordingly ?

It only happened after quite a while, so it's not easily reproducable.
If possible could you also quantify "quite a while" so a dev trying to repro it knows whether they are looking at minutes, hours or days ? Any patterns re: particular areas of game play when it happens ?

According to my own experiences, reporting video driver problems to kernel.org is useless. You're much better reporting it to freedesktop.org bug tracker.

OK, that is something more then year old with old kernel,etc... but I spotted something even older there like BIOS 4.6.5 08/22/2012

Is there newer BIOS version avalable for that laptop? I guess, you might have some general stability problems with it or so... if that is a problem then you might get all range of false positives with software you use, etc...
