Oh AMD thanks for droping support for my HD 5850... You should mention about it in release note in Linux driver...

Ok, its time to find new GPU. Anyone can recommend chep NVIDIA GPU? Maybe GTX 660 or 750?

Go for a 750 or 750Ti, they are cheap, good performance and less demaning power.

Only a masochist buys AMD, I was burned by the dropping of HD4000 and vowed never again as their support cycles are rubbish. I suspect it won't be long before their windows drivers for HD5000/6000 get relegated to unmaintained legacy as well; meanwhile in Nvidia land you get 10 years support for 'nix and win. A Shoddy company who treat their customers like shit.

To be honest i only use the open source driver so i couldn't care less.
I do like to test catalyst every now and then but nothing more.

Every fing gcn gpu has a great proportion of its functionality either as released oss code or as released documentation.
Those GPUs are bound to have support UNTIL NOBODY CARES ANYMORE AND THE DRIVER ROTS AWAY.
Fixed that for you. If you really think that any driver in the kernel will have support forever, especially in a moving area like graphics drivers, you are utterly mistaken.

This article is inaccurate. This crimson driver (which is a beta) works on pre-gcn cards. The final stable version of this driver however will not support the pre-gcn cards. So you can either use the current stable driver or this beta crimson driver. Both of those drivers will be the last pre-gcn cards will ever get. The same applies with their windows drivers too.

Can this pre GCN drop have anything to do with vulcan support? since only GCN cards will get vulcan.
