Is Portrait Mode Possible For Me?

Hi,

I got my Radeon 2600HD Pro card working with my Kubuntu 8.04 and the fglrx drivers (with help from these forums). I now want to be able to switch to portrait view with my monitor which supports it (a Samsung SyncMaster 245B 24" Widescreen).

I understand that the fglrx drivers support RandR so I think theoretically it is possible, but I might be misunderstanding how this is done. Is anyone able to tell me firstly if I can actually do this and secondly, if so, any suggestions as to how to get started? It may seem greedy to want portrait view on a 24" screen, but the monitor supports it (once I removed the locking screw) and it would be great for reading forums.

You can use a randr frontend like krandrtray or use xrandr directly:

xrandr -o left

(or right, inverted, normal)

Thanks for the pointer. I tried both your suggestions and got errors, though.

Do I need to configure something to support this? The KDE frontend for this works, but has no option for orientation, only resolution.

I did not say anything from sudo! Thats not needed, but it seems you need a differnt driver, maybe try ati or radeonhd.

What lens to use for portrait photography using my olympus e510.? I would like to purchase a lens for good portrait photography for my Olympus e510. I currently only have the 14-42mm that came with the camera. I would like to spend around $500-$700 for the lens. Also, do I need to purchase an external flash? Any help or suggestions?
