GPU Temperatures with lm-sensors

I was wondering if this was possible yet for ATI cards and if so what exactly would I need to do. Googling doesn't bring up much, just that a number of ATI developed and sensors used in ATI cards are supposedly supported by lm-sensors. Even with the latest version, I can't detect any on my cards (9700 Pro and X850 XT). Granted I am on Debian using stock kernels, is it possible this isn't enabled in the kernel?

Especially since the PTS can integrate with lm-sensors, getting this working would be nice.

We are putting together information for this, starting with 5xx then working forward and back from there.
