  • ati driver 8.4 on fedora 9 Preview 64 bit

I installed the new Ati driver 8.4 for my 3850 card on Fedora 9 Preview 64 bit and got:

    dlopen:/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so:
    undefined symbol: miZeroLineScreenIndex

btw: I tried to install the Ati drivers 8.2 8.3 8.4 for my 3850 card on Debian Lenny, Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04, Sidux, Fedora 8, OpenSuse 10.3, Mandriva 2008.1, all 64 bit but they didn't work (black screen)... so far they worked on 32 bit Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 and Mandriva 2008.1...

    any suggestions?

Kernel 2.6.25 (Fedora 9 only) isn't supported yet by fglrx.

Livna is working on getting the driver working on F9. Here's a post from the mailing list.

this is a bit confusing ...

        "Kernel 2.6.25 (Fedora 9 only) isn't supported yet "

i mean what the $^#$ does this sentence mean kernel 2.6.25 IS supported but not the kernel version compiled by Fedora fellas?

or does it mean kernel 2.6.25 is not supported at all ?

        thanks

It does support it NOW (8.5) but at the time d2kx wrote that (8.4) it wasn't supported.
However, in Fedora 9 you won't get any 3d acceleration (if it works at all) because of DRI 2 which isn't supported by fglrx, yet (and probably won't be supported until 2009).
You'll probably have to downgrade to Xorg 7.3 to make things work.
