X-video better but not quite there yet

I am having a problem with Xv playback when desktop effects are enabled in Ubuntu 7.10. I can hear sound but the video window is just black. Fullscreen playback is black as well. Any ideas how to fix this?

Specs:

Radeon 9800XT
Catalyst 8.3
Ubuntu 7.10
Kernel 2.6.22-14
Xorg 7.3

Interestingly enough I have the same card and X.org version running in Xv but I don't have any of the problems you mention.

(I haven't tested OpenGL overlay... I don't use it)

Well Xv does now work for me with several caveats:

-colours are 'washed out' and not correct. I think this is a known issue
-kaffeine crashes when trying to access DVB
-there is STILL tearing even with TexturedVideoSync on and TexturedVideo on

also

-VLC still cannot use Opengl output

So it's getting better, but it's still not there yet
