Wait what? How did you get from "And the whole communities around the kernel and every piece of userspace software" to "Communities of closed source driver developers"??

Your train of thought is interesting. Now even more nonsensical than before, but interesting.

        C for Sea Islands,
I for Indus (internal code name for the Kaveri platform),
K for Kerala (internal code name for the Kabini platform).

Basically all the GPUs/APUs using what is sometimes referred to as the GCN 1.1 core (gfxip7 internally).

Yeah, but the open source driver performs worse than the proprietary and supports older version of OpenGL. If it was just about running the desktop environment Linux users wouldn't buy high end cards. The points is will we be able to finally get Windows like gaming experience in Linux.

So, Sea Islands in my own world.

You are really living near Toronto/Canada? When do you sleep?

                I know.
That's why there is a ";-)" at the end of the line.

that means open. proprietary crap cannot be neither of that.

Why would someone be served better by Windows when they don't mind using a closed graphics driver in Linux? As if the only difference between them is open source graphics drivers.
the only difference is blobs vs no blobs. like blobs => use blob os
