Dell. They don't use standardized MXM interfaces, so have to see if Dell has an upgrade for you.

1st, its VERY EXPENSIVE, 2nd cooling issues might appy, 3rd you may be unlucky to have something say, put in orginal blabla, i got hp laptops etc which doesnt want to change wireless cpu videocards dvd rom, nothing else than memory.
It's mostly working fine on my laptop with a X700. No heat issues so far and I've had mine running for hours...although I haven't significantly stressed it.

    • 8.01 are working very fine for me, with a X700 Mobility.
The only thing I noticed, is the screen flicker when switching of resolution.

Yes. I also noticed I didn't need to add the overlay command. I wonder if FireGL cards work with the default video overlay settings even when using AIGLX.

The e1705 series seems to be something on an enigma. The card is easily swapped out by removing the keyboard with any standard laptop type PCIe card. In fact, Dell gives you instructions on how to do this yourself. There are quite a few websites with articles dedicated to which cards work well, etc, but none tell you where to pick one up on the cheap. And searching for 7800Go, etc really doesn't help much either.

Try installing the driver through ATI's setup system (run the file without parameters). That worked for me when I couldn't build the packages for debian.

I'm observing degraded performance over time (uptime of about 17 hours now). FPS of fgl_glxgears dropped by 100 (~950-850), 2D feels more sluggish. I have no idea what causes it. Just wild speculation but I am getting these errors:
[61304.664000] [fglrx:firegl_free_mutex] *ERROR* mutex id 0x00000002 not found in mutex list

Restarting X brings performance back up to normal. "Normal" 2D performance in fglrx-land = sucks, so I cannot accept further lowered 2D performance over time.

I've had enough. Enough. Enough. Back to 8.37.6, once again. Now I'm going to ask my employer for a new laptop.

X1400 mobile, Intel core duo, Thinkpad Z61m.

                      Same here...

Notable performance drop w/ drivers 7.11 & 8.1 (7.12 was useless due to resolution bug).
