AMD 8.42.3 Driver Released -- The Baby Is Born!

For those with Ubuntu 64-bit problems, below is a link to the updated Ubuntu packaging scripts done by Aric Cyr, which will be found in fglrx 8.43 (along with other updates I imagine). It fixes the 64-bit problem.

After installing 8.42 on debian etch, wine 0.9.47 no longer starts:

Anyone else having trouble with wine with the new driver?

Try moving the file into your home directory or something and then try it. It seems like it can't find the file when trying to generate the distro specific package.

Slacker: try using /usr/lib32 as your path and see if something comes out of that.

Sadly, that's not working too.

tried without "real" too: same error

Anyone else on gentoo amd64 managed to do this?
Maybe I just forgot something...

Try just compiz --replace and see where that gets you.

Try installing it manually via method 2 found here:
(uninstall all previous instances of fglrx first, but don't reboot till you finish the manual install)

I take it you're using Ubuntu? use --buildpkg Ubuntu/7.10 and not running the driver from its GUI installer.

Make sure to block fglrx in the restricted drivers too.

Still mesa instead of ati

I have this strangest bug for quite some time now, and its the same with this newest version of fglrx. Same goes for different kernels and Xorg versions.

Thing is, X hangs when I try to start a second X, or do Switch User in GNOME. Now the funniest part is, if I start X then close it and start it again, all is fine, I can start a second X simultaniously or do switch user without hanging. Help?

I checked it with vesa and open-source drivers and they both work fine, dont hang.

Extract it to /etc/ati/custom-package and then with the 8.42 package run --buildpkg custom-package/7.10 (or 7.04 for Feisty)

compiz is working pretty good for me except from a bit of corruption. Although quake4 freezes and I can get etqw to start but it freezes before the game play start. At lest we are seeing some real progress and in the next few months we might have something stable. Although I don't know if most of my problems are from my card x1900xtx or using feisty instead of gutsy with a newer x.
