Today I upgraded my kernel from 2.6.34.5 to 2.6.35.4, and was suddenly amazed by how much more responsive celestia has become. With 2.6.34.5, I get about 2 fps when I zoom in closer than 48.6 km to the Earth. However, with 2.6.35.4, celestia consistently provides about 20 fps instead, no matter how close I zoom in.
The down side is that World of Warcraft hard-locked the PC with 2.6.35.4 as well, without writing anything to either the serial console or the Xorg.0.log file. Nuts.
This is with a RV350 card, using latest Gallium and xorg-drv-ati.
